Softball Improves To 3-0 With 10-2 Win Over Hawaii
02/05/05 | Softball
HONOLULU, Hawaii ? Another combination of explosive offense and fundamental defense led to a 10-2 win over Hawaii for the 13th-ranked University of Oregon softball team. The Ducks improve to 3-0 on the season and at the Hawaii Paradise Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Junior pitcher Amy Harris made her first start of the season and picked up the win, allowing five hits in six innings of work.
After three games this season, Oregon has scored 29 runs on 32 hits, led by Breanne Sabol, who was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored against Hawaii. Sabol has nine hits, five RBI and five runs scored in the Ducks' first three games of the season. As a team, Oregon is hitting .400 through three games.
Senior Ashley Richards, who finished the game 2-for-4, drove in Beth Boskovich with a single to the right side in the first inning as Oregon took a first inning lead for the third time in as many games. Freshman T.J. Eadus then drove in Richards and Dani Baird with a double to deep center field and fellow freshman Kristi Jorgensen scored Eadus with a double of her own as the Ducks led 4-0 heading into the second inning. Eadus was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI in the game.
Baird had her sixth hit of the tournament ? a two RBI single through the left side in the second inning ? that scored freshman Lovena Chaput and Sabol to put Oregon ahead 6-0. Richards then drove in Baird with a single to give the Ducks a 7-0 advantage.
Hawaii put two runs on the board in the third inning ? the first Oregon allowed in 12 innings of play ? after a two RBI single by pinch hitter Alana Power.
Oregon came right back in the bottom of the inning after Sabol hit her second double of the game to score Erin Goodell and extend the Ducks' lead to 8-2. It was more of Sabol in the fifth inning as she drove in Jorgensen with an RBI line drive and Eadus drove in Boskovich with a single down the left field line to put Oregon ahead 10-2 and end the game in the sixth inning due to the mercy rule.
The Ducks continue tournament play tomorrow vs. No. 9 Washington.
