Softball Drops A Pair Of Games On Final Day Of Louisville Slugger Desert Classic

LAS VEGAS, Nev. ? The 13th-ranked University of Oregon softball team dropped a pair of games on the final day of the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. No. 8 Michigan (4-0) defeated the Ducks 9-0 in the opening game of the day and Oklahoma State handed the Ducks a 3-2 loss in their final game of the tournament.
Junior Beth Boskovich was 2-for-6 on the day to lead Oregon's offense and sophomore Suzie Barnes went 1-for-3 with a home run against Oklahoma State.
Freshman Alicia Cook (2-1) took her first loss of the season against Michigan while junior Amy Harris (2-2) took the loss against Oklahoma State.
Four first inning hits, including a two-RBI double by Michigan third baseman Grace Leutel, gave the Wolverines an early 4-0 lead. A sacrifice fly by Samantha Findlay as well as an RBI single by Nicole Motycka in the second inning extended Michigan's lead to 6-0. A pair of home runs and an RBI single by Jessica Merchant in the third inning continued the Wolverines' hot hitting streak and they led 9-0 after three innings.
Freshman Kristi Jorgensen, sophomore Ann Marie Topps and junior Beth Boskovich accounted for Oregon's three hits in the game while freshman pitcher Alicia Cook (2-1) suffered her first loss of the season.
In Oregon's final game of the tournament, Oklahoma State went ahead 1-0 in the second inning on an RBI double by second baseman Jennie Killman and added another run on an RBI single by Courtney Totte in the third inning.
Barnes' third home run in Oregon's last four games tied the game in the fourth inning, Killman hit a walk off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Cowgirls (4-4) to a 3-2 victory.
