EUGENE ? The University of Oregon men's tennis team fell to 5-3 after losing to Boise State, 6-1, at the Student Tennis Center Friday night. No. 16 Sven Swinnen produced Oregon's lone singles victory, while improving to 14-3 on the season.
After the Ducks lost at the No. 1 position, the doubles portion came down to the No. 3 spot as UO's Chris Liao and Vlad Pino were knotted 5-5 with Boise State's Nils Klemann and Eric Roberson before the Broncos reeled off three straight points to clinch the match and the doubles point. Oregon's Markus Schiller and Thomas Bieri picked up a win at the No. 2 spot, defeating the Broncos' Ikaika Jobe and Matias Silva, 8-5, and improving to 4-2 in dual play.
In singles, Boise State took command of the match, winning quickly in two sets at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions. The Broncos then clinched the match with back-to-back wins at No. 3 and No. 6.
For the second consecutive match, Swinnen continued to be Oregon's lone bright spot, upping his dual record to 7-0 with a, 6-3, 6-2, win over BSU's No. 41 Luke Shields.
Senior and No. 57-ranked Manuel Kost was unable to play due to a wrist injury.
Oregon stays in Eugene as it hosts UC Santa Barbara, Sunday, at 11 a.m., at the Student Tennis Center.
