Key Hits Lift No. 3 UCLA To 2-0 Win Over No. 11 Oregon

EUGENE ? A pair of UCLA home runs in the fourth inning were all the Bruins needed to defeat No. 11 Oregon, 2-0, in front of 662 fans at Howe Field Friday afternoon. With the win, the third-ranked Bruins improve to 32-7 overall, 5-6 Pacific-10 Conference while Oregon falls to 34-13, 8-5.
"I thought we pitched very well today, but UCLA made adjustments in the batters box and we didn't," Oregon head coach Kathy Arendsen said. "We had opportunities to score and we just never got any momentum going."
Junior Ani Nyhus (19-9) moved to fourth all-time on the single season strikeout list (157) with six strikeouts in today's loss while UCLA All-American Keira Goerl had nine strikeouts to improve to 19-5 this season. Oregon senior Anissa Meashintubby threw three and a thirds innings in relief of Nyhus and allowed no hits and had two strikeouts. The Bruins finished the game with just three hits, but two were home runs (Jodie Legaspi, Lisa Dodd) in the fourth inning. Designated player Alissa Eno accounted for UCLA's other hit. The Ducks' offense was limited to two hits ? a single each by freshmen Kayleen Hudson and Ann Marie Topps. Oregon hosts No. 7 Washington tomorrow at 3 p.m.
