Ducks Rebound With Victory Over Aztecs

SAN DIEGO, Calif. ? The Oregon women's tennis team rebounded after its disappointing loss to Tulsa on Friday, by defeating San Diego State, 4-3. The Ducks (13-8, 2-6) returned the favor after losing to the Aztecs by the same score last season.
Oregon, once again, had to win the unconventional way, losing the doubles point, yet winning four of six singles matches. In doubles, the lone Oregon win came by way of Davina Mendiburu and Ester Bak, who defeated Sarah Sansom and Patricia Graf, 8-5. The win marked the duo's a 13th dual victory of the year.
In singles, Oregon showed up to play, winning at the top two and bottom two positions. No. 8-ranked Daria Panova won her 28th match of the season, defeating SDSU's Dita Hauerlandova, 6-0, 6-0. Panova is five wins shy of surpassing her own school record of 32 single-season wins.
Freshman Dominika Dieskova took care of Katalina Romero, 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 2 position. The win marked the 17th overall for the Slovakia native.
Positions No. 3 and No. 4 belonged to the Aztecs, as senior Courtney Nagle and Mendiburu were defeated in straight sets.
The story of the day belonged to the sophomore Leksinska, who has come up big for the Ducks' for the second consecutive weekend. Leksinska defeated Graf, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, at the No. 5 spot, to clinch the match for Oregon.
"Anna (Leksinska) was our MVP once again," Oregon head coach Nils Schyllander said. "The match was a great college battle and with a lot of players playing hurt, Anna and the rest of the team stepped up to the challenge."
Rounding out singles play was Bak, who took down Sansom, 6-2, 6-0. The win marked the 10th dual victory for the junior.
Oregon concludes its road trip on Monday (April 5) when they take on host San Diego at 1:30 p.m.
