Tennis Upended By No. 10 Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. ? The University of Oregon men's tennis team could not find an answer for the No. 10-ranked Stanford Cardinal, as they were defeated, 6-1. The loss drops Oregon to 0-2 in Pac-10 Conference play and 8-6 overall.
Oregon could manage only one win in three doubles matches, conceding the doubles point to Stanford. Junior Manuel Kost and Markus Schiller teamed together for the first time this season, defeating Stanford's Carter Morris and Phil Sheng, 8-5, at the No. 2 position.
Arron Spencer and Sven Swinnen dropped their match to K.C. Corkery and Sam Warburg, 8-5. The loss marked the first time all season that Swinnen and Spencer had dropped two consecutive doubles matches.
In singles, the Ducks struggled to find their groove, dropping five of the six matches. The lone highlight for Oregon was No. 81-ranked Kost defeating Corkery, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (8).
Oregon's Schiller came up on the short end of a grueling three-set battle, losing, 6-7, 6-4, 1-0 (5), to Stanford's Phil Sheng at the No. 3 position
No.38-ranked Swinnen was defeated by No. 23-ranked Warburg, 6-1, 6-4, at the No. 1 spot. Stanford owned positions No. 4 through No. 6, as Spencer, King, and Vlad Pino were all defeated in two sets.
"This match will help prepare us for the remainder of the Pac-10 schedule," Oregon head Coach Chris Russell said. "There were some lessons to be learned. We were a couple of points away from potentially winning one or two more singles matches. Overall, I thought we gained a lot from the experience."
The Ducks continue Pac-10 play next week when they play host to No. 24 Arizona (April 2, 1:30 p.m.) and Arizona State (April 4, Noon) at the Student Tennis Center.
