MIAMI, Fla. ? The 13th-ranked University of Oregon softball team lost a 3-0 decision to Florida Atlantic on the second day of the Florida International Tournament in Miami, Fla., Saturday morning. The Ducks are now 1-2 at the tournament and on the season while the Owls improved to 6-1 overall this season.
"Once again we have to focus on getting better and stronger," Oregon head coach Kathy Arendsen said. "We have to be able to bounce back and play again today. We were able to do that yesterday and I'm hoping that we're able to respond again today." Oregon sophomore Breanne Sabol provided the bulk of Oregon's offense, finishing the game 2-for-3 with two singles. Freshman Suzie Barnes accounted for the Ducks' only other hit, a single in the sixth inning. Junior pitcher Anissa Meashintubby (0-1) picked up the loss for the Ducks while Florida Atlantic's Candice Freel (4-1) recorded the win. Florida Atlantic took a 3-0 lead in the third inning when sophomore Jennifer Cavanaugh was hit by a pitch and later advanced to third on an Oregon throwing error. Shortstop Jessica Sachs' double to right field scored Cavanaugh and Sachs' scored on an RBI single by Ginny Matthews. Matthews advanced to third on a double down the right side line by Pam Mazzarella and later scored when Jessica Braggins walked with the bases loaded. The Ducks play Iowa State at 2 p.m. EST in their final game of the tournament.
