Ducks Close Out Season With Victory Over PSU

CORVALLIS ? The University of Oregon volleyball team closed out the 2004 season with a, 30-28, 30-21, 30-25, victory over Portland State at the Oregon State Tournament.
"I could not be happier for the team," Oregon head coach Carl Ferreira said. "The Pac-10 season is long and competitive and dealing with the loss of Lauren (Westendorf) was not easy. My top emotion right now is seeing our players and seniors end the season with a victory."
For the second consecutive night, the Duck (10-19, 1-17) offense was carried by sophomore outside hitter Sarah Mason who notched a game-high 15 kills. Mason closed out the season recording 15 or more kills in four of her last five matches. Mason finished the season with a 4.01 kills per game average.
Freshman middle blocker Karen Waddington added eight kills on 17 attempts while sophomore setter Heather Madison recorded 42 assists, giving her eight 40-plus assist matches on the season. Madison also chipped in with 13 digs.
Defensively, the Ducks were led by sophomore middle blocker Kristen Bitter's five block assists. Senior libero Katie O'Neil played her final match as a Duck, recording a game-high 20 digs. O'Neil finished her career with 1,005 digs.
The win ended a 15-match losing skid and pushed Oregon's win streak to nine over Portland State, dating back to 1986.
