How Support Through SHOUT! Is Shaping Sofia Bell’s Oregon Journey
For University of Oregon women's basketball student-athlete Sofia Bell, wearing the Oregon jersey means more than competing at the highest level.
It means pride, purpose, and above all, home.
She is a lifelong Duck fan who grew up in Oregon, Bell says representing the University she has loved since childhood is still something she does not take for granted.
"It's really been a dream of mine since before I started playing basketball to come to the University of Oregon," Bell said. "So, when I step on the court, I feel a lot of pride and excitement and wanting to represent the University the best that I can."
That pride is only part of what has made her student-athlete experience so meaningful.
For Bell, Oregon has become the right place not only because of the opportunity to compete in the Big Ten, but because of the family atmosphere and the support system that allows student athletes to grow far beyond their sport.
"Oregon has made it feel like home in all aspects," she said. "It's the family atmosphere, the community support, and all the opportunities available to us as student athletes beyond just being a player."
Those opportunities, made possible through the generosity of Duck fans and donors, have helped shape Bell's journey in profound ways.
From traveling internationally with her team as a freshman to England and Greece, to serving communities in Panama through Courts for Kids, Bell's experience has been defined by moments that extend well beyond the basketball court.
Her trip to Panama remains one of the most impactful.

"That was truly a super valuable experience," Bell said. "I'm still close with the student-athletes I went with, and I'm still in touch with members of the community there. It was an incredible experience."
Support from Oregon Athletics has also opened doors professionally.
Last summer, Bell interned with Nike, an opportunity she describes as a dream come true.
Working as a product line management intern within basketball footwear, she contributed to projects tied to both the Sabrina and A'ja Wilson signature shoe lines, gaining hands on experience in an industry she hopes to come back to post college.
"I grew up in Portland and have always loved Nike," Bell said. "To be able to spend eight weeks there and build those connections was super cool. It's always been a dream of mine."
That same ambition is evident in the classroom.
Bell completed her undergraduate degree in business finance in just two years and is now pursuing a concurrent MBA and Master of Science in Finance. Her remarkable academic path reflects the discipline she brings to every aspect of her student-athlete experience.
Balancing Division I athletics with accelerated academics has not been without challenges.
"The biggest challenge is probably time management," Bell said. "Balancing school, sports, and everything else I want to be involved in has really helped me grow."
Yet it is precisely this balance that donor support helps make possible.
From access to meals and world class facilities, to team travel, leadership opportunities, career development experiences, and academic resources, Bell says the impact from donor support shows up every day.
"They show up constantly," she said. "Everything is easier. Having access to food in the morning, our facilities, travel, and all of the opportunities we have as a team, it's huge for us."
For Bell, donor support is not just about helping student-athletes succeed during their time at Oregon. But preparing and shaping them for what comes next.
"It truly makes an impact not just as a player, but also as a student," Bell said. "It helps us pursue a career outside of sports once we're done and gives us the resources to explore our passions."
That is exactly what the SHOUT! Campaign is designed to do.
Oregon Athletics continues to raise support for scholarships and direct resources that empower student-athletes like Sofia to thrive in competition, in the classroom, and in their futures.
Gifts from Duck fans are directly shaping the experience of student-athletes like Bell. They are creating opportunities to compete, learn, travel, lead, and prepare for life after basketball.
For Bell, the message to donors is simple: your support matters.
It is felt in every early morning workout, every classroom, every team trip, every professional opportunity, and every moment she steps onto the court in green and yellow.
And it is helping ensure that the next generation of Ducks can continue to thrive as athletes, students and future leaders.
SHOUT! For the Ducks and invest in the future of Oregon Athletics.
