Strong Second Half Lifts Hoosiers over Ducks

Oregon shot 50 percent after halftime Monday put couldn't keep pace in a loss at Indiana.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The Oregon men's basketball team on Monday put together its best offensive performance in the last month, but an avalanche of buckets by Indiana in the second half sent the Ducks to their 10th straight defeat.
The UO men fell to the Hoosiers, 92-74, despite scoring their most points in a regulation game this calendar year and shooting 50 percent in the second half. The Ducks (8-16, 1-12 Big Ten) trailed just 36-30 at halftime, but Indiana made 17 of its first 19 shots in the second half to open up a comfortable lead.
"It wasn't what we wanted," UO coach Dana Altman said. "I liked our performance first half; other than just giving up a couple shots in transition and that, I thought we did some good things. But defensively, the second half, that was not what we have to have to be successful."
Wei Lin and Nate Bittle scored 15 points each to lead five Ducks in double figures. Sean Stewart added 12 points, Takai Simpkins had 11 and Drew Carter added a career-high 10, but Oregon couldn't keep pace with a Hoosiers team led by a 41-point output from Lamar Wilkerson.
"We don't have the offensive firepower to score 92 points," Altman said. "We knew that coming in. We needed a game in the seventies. They're a good offensive team; we made them look really good in that second half. We weren't connected defensively."

How It Happened: Carter got his career night started with five early points as the Ducks jumped out to a 6-0 lead. The Hoosiers didn't have a field goal until nearly 4 minutes of the game had elapsed, and they were 5-of-17 in the opening 13 minutes of play.
Back-to-back buckets by Lin capped a 7-0 run that put Oregon up 19-14 at that point in the first half. But then Wilkerson finally got going, scoring the first 10 points for Indiana during a 13-3 run that gave the Hoosiers the lead for good.
Wilkerson had 16 points at halftime despite not scoring until the 7:00 mark of the first half. He then had 25 points on 8-of-10 shooting in the second half, while his teammates combined to go 10-of-12 after halftime.
Indiana's 18-of-22 shooting in the second half overshadowed 50 percent shooting by the Ducks, who got 11 points plus five assists from Bittle after halftime.
