Ducks Rally Past New Orleans in Weekend Finale

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Oregon beach volleyball team closed out the season-opening weekend with a 3-2 win over New Orleans at the Green Wave Invitational. The Ducks split two duals Saturday, falling to host and 20th-ranked Tulane in the opener. Oregon heads home with a 3-2 overall record.
The UO pair of Gwen Fife and AJ Slojkowski won both their matches Saturday and posted a 4-1 mark at No. 3 pairs this weekend.
Match 4: #20 Tulane 3, Oregon 2
The host Green Wave took an early 2-0 lead after the first wave of matches and secured the dual with a win at the top of the lineup. Oregon avoided the sweep with points at No. 3 and 5 pairs. The Ducks' first point of the morning came from Natasha George and Katrena Koellner who rallied for a three-set victory and their second win of the weekend.
Fife and Slojkowski started their Saturday with a 21-18, 21-14 win, giving Oregon its second tally against the 20th-ranked team in the country.

The Ducks faced a 2-1 deficit in the weekend finale before getting wins at No. 1 and 3 pairs to complete the comeback victory. Hanna Bjornson and Sofia Taylor, playing at No. 4s, recorded the first point of the dual before New Orleans tallied the next two points from courts two and five.
Fife and Slojkowski evened the dual score at 2-all with a 21-14, 21-15 result at No. 3, their fourth point of the weekend. The focus turned to court one where Bella Gamache and Liz Rossi were on their way to a straight-set win that clinched the Ducks' third victory of the weekend.
