01/25/26 | Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball
Fans are encouraged to wear tie-dye for the UO men's game against UCLA on Jan 28 and the women's game vs. UW on March 1.
EUGENE, Ore. — More Grateful vibes will emanate from Oregon Athletics events this year, after the "Grateful Ducks" football game in October was a smash hit.
The UO men's and women's basketball programs will host "Grateful Ducks" games of their own this season, the men against UCLA on Jan. 28 and the women against Washington on March 1. The basketball games will continue to celebrate the legacy of the Grateful Dead within the Eugene-Springfield community and the University of Oregon.
The Grateful Dead played on the UO campus more than 20 times all told, beginning in 1968 at the EMU Ballroom and including 10 shows at Autzen Stadium. The band played three times at Oregon's historic basketball venue, McArthur Court — May 31, 1969; Jan. 22, 1978; and Aug. 16, 1981.
Now, the spirit of the Dead will be in the air at Matthew Knight Arena for one game each featuring the Oregon men's and women's basketball teams. As they did for the UO football team's victory over Wisconsin in October, Oregon fans are encouraged to wear tie-dye to the "Grateful Ducks" basketball games, Jan. 28 and March 1.
More information for fans will be released as it becomes available via GoDucks.com/promotions.
