Update from Oregon Athletics
08/22/25 | Duck Athletic Fund
A Letter from Director of Athletics, Rob Mullens

With the launch of the 2025-26 athletic seasons, I want to take an opportunity to thank you again for your continued and loyal support to Oregon Athletics. Your support contributed significantly to an extraordinary 2024-25. This year marked one of our most successful years ever, as we finished 18th in the Learfield Directors' Cup standings, our highest result in eight years and the seventh time we've landed in the top 20.
In our first year competing in the Big Ten Conference, the Ducks won eight conference titles, and our Women's Track & Field team brought home their eighth NCAA Indoor National Championship. Our student-athletes also excelled academically, with a school-record 11 Academic All-Americans as well as 207 Academic All-Big Ten honorees, including 105 from our championship-winning programs.
These achievements reflect not only the hard work of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff, but also the generous and steadfast support of our Oregon community.
A historic moment changed the world of college athletics on June 6, as the House v. NCAA settlement was approved. As we shared with you last fall, this settlement introduces transformative changes that are redefining how college athletic departments operate. It permits direct revenue-sharing with student-athletes, mandates back pay for past NIL restrictions and removes scholarship limits in favor of roster limits. This gives institutions more flexibility and responsibility than ever before to remain competitive both academically and athletically.
Starting July 1, 2025:
- Oregon Athletics will fully fund and distribute $20.5 million to student-athletes as permitted by the House settlement.
- The settlement replaces traditional scholarship limits with new roster-based limits, giving us greater flexibility in how we support our teams. This shift allows us to expand scholarship opportunities, enabling more student-athletes to receive the financial support to thrive academically and athletically.
- Student-athletes will still have opportunities through third-party NIL agreements separate from the new revenue-sharing model. Any NIL deal valued at more than $600 must be reported and approved through a national clearinghouse. Oversight of both revenue sharing and NIL deals will be handled by a new group called the College Sports Commission.
As one of fewer than 20 self-sustaining athletic departments in the country, Oregon Athletics receives no institutional support or student fees. Every dollar we spend, whether on scholarships, travel, nutrition, or academic support, is generated through ticket sales, media rights, sponsorships, and most importantly, philanthropic support. We also pay the full cost of scholarships for both resident and non-resident student-athletes at the University of Oregon.
We are committed to delivering a world-class experience to all student-athletes across our 20 programs. This new financial model presents both opportunities and challenges, but with our innovative spirit and your continued support, we're ready to lead through this next chapter.
Entering year two in the Big Ten, we remain confident in the direction of Oregon Athletics. We are focused on building long-term stability and competitive success while remaining true to our mission of achieving broad-based excellence. Whether it's through attending games, purchasing season tickets, or making a philanthropic gift, there are more ways than ever to help fuel our future. We will continue to share some of those opportunities in the months ahead, but here are some ways you can continue to make an impact:
- Contribute to the Duck Athletic Fund or Women in Flight: Donors to the Duck Athletic Fund and Women in Flight are essential to the success of Oregon student-athletes. Your support helps fund scholarships, maintains top-tier facilities, and provides critical resources for all 20 teams. This fall, we'll launch a new scholarship campaign to expand financial aid opportunities, giving more student-athletes support for tuition, housing, and more. We are extremely grateful to the donors who have already made gifts to this campaign, totaling over $450,000 in scholarship support. Our early commitments include a $200,000 matching gift component to inspire other Ducks to support this initiative. To learn more about the Duck Athletic Fund and donate, CLICK HERE.
- Stay Connected on Social Media: By following the Oregon Ducks on X, Instagram, and TikTok, you'll get a closer look at our student-athletes, their teams, and what makes Oregon special. Every like, follow, and share not only shows your support, but it can also boost their visibility and earning potential. Your engagement makes a difference!
- Buy Tickets and Show Up for the Ducks: Oregon Athletics events bring more than a million fans together each year. Your presence and energy on gamedays directly supports our teams and creates one of the best home-field advantages in the nation. For more information on tickets, CLICK HERE.
Oregon is a special place because of the people. We are made up of student-athletes, coaches, fans, and everyone who has played a part in the rise of Oregon Athletics. We are innovative, resilient, and committed to competing for excellence on and off the field. Now is our time to commit fully to our student-athletes and 20 Athletic programs. Thank you for being part of the Oregon family.
Go Ducks!
