
Kessler in Second After Day One of Bryan Clay

The season-opening decathlon resumes Friday at 2:30 p.m.
EUGENE, Ore. – Redshirt freshman Koby Kessler sits in second place after day one of the decathlon at the Bryan Clay Multis in Azusa, Calif. Through five events, Kessler has 3,997 points with UO teammates Aiden Carter and Arthur Katahdin in eighth and 12th place, respectively.
Kessler posted personal bests in three of five events including back-to-back marks of 10.80 in the 100 meters and 7.51m/24-7.75—a wind-aided measure—in the long jump to start the day. He capped the day with a time of 49.83 in the 400, his first time under 50 seconds in the event. Throughout the day, Kessler never dipped below fourth place in the overall standings.
Lincoln Krog of meet host Azusa Pacific leads the decathlon with 4,101 points.
Carter—3,808 points on day one—registered a pair of all-conditions bests in the first two events of the day. He carded marks of 11.07w (+2.8) in the 100 followed by a windy measure of 7.34m/24-1 (+2.4) in the long jump.
Katahdin rounds out the UO trio with 3,562 points heading into the final five events.
The top flight of the Bryan Clay decathlon resumes Friday at 2:30 p.m. with the 110-meter hurdles. The second day will also feature the discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500 meters. The final event is scheduled to start at approximately 8 p.m.
Notable: Gianna Bullock, competing unattached, is fourth after day one of the Group A heptathlon. Over four events, she has 3,405 points. The heptathlon picks back up Friday at 2 p.m. with the long jump.
