Three-Point Barrage Sinks Jackrabbits
11/12/25 | Men's Basketball
Oregon shot a program-record 40 threes and made 15 on Wednesday night to improve to 3-0.
EUGENE, Ore. — It wasn't necessarily the plan to overwhelm South Dakota State with a three-point barrage Wednesday night. But it worked.
The Oregon men's basketball team put up a program-record 40 three-point attempts against the Jackrabbits at Matthew Knight Arena, making 15 on the way to an 83-69 victory. The Ducks improved to 3-0 entering a rivalry matchup with Oregon State at home Monday.
Oregon's three-point effort made up for the fact that, for much of the game, the Ducks were being outrebounded and South Dakota State had more free-throw attempts. By game's end the UO men had advantages in both, but not to the extent head coach Dana Altman would have liked.
"I'm not pleased with our physicality at all," Altman said. "… We've got a lot to work on. (But) I'm glad we won the game, and that guys finished the game strong and hit shots when we had to."

Jackson Shelstad, playing his second game after missing the opener with a hand injury, led the Ducks with 22 points and had eight assists with zero turnovers. Takai Simpkins added 20 points on 5-of-10 three-point shooting, and Nate Bittle posted his second double-double in three games with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
"I still feel like I haven't really found my rhythm shooting the ball," said Shelstad, who was 4-of-13 from three-point range. "Just trying to go out there, run the offense, make plays for other guys and take the right shots."
How It Happened: South Dakota State opened the game with an 8-2 run, but Dezdrick Lindsay tied it up at 10-10 with a three-pointer. The Jackrabbits last had the lead at 14-13, before Bittle hit a jumper that gave the Ducks the lead for good.

Bittle's next bucket sparked a 7-0 run for the Ducks that Shelstad capped with a three-pointer. That put Oregon up 31-22, the biggest lead for either team in the first half. The UO men led 40-34 at halftime, at which point the Ducks had already attempt 23 three-pointers, with six makes.
"We're settling way too much," Shelstad said. "When we went inside it worked out; we were either scoring or getting to the free-throw line. Moving forward we're not going to be able to take so many threes. We've got to attack more in the paint and make plays."
Consecutive threes by Bittle and Lindsay early in the second half gave the Ducks a double-digit lead at 48-38. A three by Drew Carter put Oregon up 56-45, at which point South Dakota State mounted a 13-3 run to get back within one, 59-58.

But Shelstad scored to end that run, and he scored six points as Oregon closed out the game on a 13-5 run to break it open. The final score, 83-69 after a pair of free throws from Shelstad, ended up being the Ducks' biggest lead of the game.
"I thought he did a lot of good things," Altman said of the Ducks' point guard. "If he'd shot it a little better, he'd have had a great game. (But) I want him to be aggressive; he's proven."
Notable: Senior transfer Devon Pryor missed the game with a leg injury. … Lindsay started in place of Pryor, as the Ducks used their third different starting lineup in three games so far. … Sophomore Jamari Phillips served the final game of a three-game suspension to open the season.
