02/24/24 | Softball
CATHEDRAL CITY, CALIF. – No. 23 Oregon dropped a 6-0 decision to Nebraska on the final day of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.
Kai Luschar led the Ducks with three base knocks on Saturday as she remains among Pac-12 and national leaders in total hits.
How it Happened: The Huskers (7-5) opened the scoring in the top of the first. The first two batters singled before Nebraska pushed runs across the plate with a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead.
The Huskers doubled up on a two-run home run in the top of the third and then added single runs in a fifth and sixth innings.
The Ducks (9-7) loaded the bases in the bottom of the first and also had two runners aboard in the second in fourth innings, but could not push a run across.
In addition to her three hits and a stolen base, Luschar had the defensive play of the game when she made a diving catch on a short fly ball to end the top of the seventh.
Noteworthy: Luschar, the Pac-12 leader in hits with 27, has reached base safely in all 16 games this season … Luschar swiped her team-leading 10th base of the season … It was the first meeting between Oregon and Nebraska – future foes in the Big Ten Conference – since 2016.
On Deck: The 2024 home opener on Thursday is part of the Jane Sanders Classic this Thursday through Saturday. The Ducks will play Mount St. Mary's (3:30 p.m.) and Maryland (6 p.m.) on the first day of the tournament.
