Ducks Beat Portland in Round-Robin Play

Bracket play Sunday begins with semifinal duals at 10 and 11:15 a.m.
SEATTLE, Wash. – The Oregon beach volleyball team went 1-2 during round-robin play at the Husky Invitational, ending the day with a victory over Portland. The Ducks' pair of Ella Tyus and Bea Wetton registered two wins for the team at the No. 2 spot in the lineup. Oregon's day also featured matches against Boise State and 13th-ranked Washington.
Bracket play gets started Sunday with semifinals at 10 and 11:15 a.m. followed by the third-place and championships matches at 1 and 2:20 p.m., respectively.
Boise State 3, Oregon 2
The Broncos jumped out to the early 1-0 lead with a win at the top spot but Tyus and Wetton answered with a 21-16, 24-22 victory in the No. 2 spot to even the dual at 1-all. With the result, Tyus and Wetton recorded their team-leading 15th win of the season. The pair fought off a BSU set point in the second on its way to tying the match.
Boise regained the lead with a victory at No. 4 pairs but once again, the Ducks got a response to pull even. Playing up in the third spot for the first time this season, Valerie Peterson and Batia Rotshtein swept their way to a 21-18, 23-21 victory.
With the match tied at 2-all, the focus turned to court five where the Ducks' team of Presley McCaskill and Abby Plevin had split the first two sets with Joey Benson and Aris Vetter. The two teams exchanged points for most of the final frame but at 13-all, the Broncos' duo rattled off the last two points to clinch.
Saturday was the fourth match between Oregon and Boise State this season, and the second to go the distance.

The weekend hosts struck early with a win at No. 5 pairs and extended the lead to 2-0 after a three-set victory on court four. Natasha George and Ashley Schroeder took the opening set in their match against Teagan DeFalco and Mary Sinclair but the Huskies' duo rallied for the point. Washington followed with a win at the No. 3 spot to clinch the dual.
The final match in play was at No. 2 pairs between the Tyus-Wetton team and Kendall Mather and Piper Monk-Heidrich. The Ducks won the first set but Mather and Monk-Heidrich forced a third set and came away with the three-set result to complete the sweep.
It was the third three-set point between the two teams this season.

The Ducks closed out the day with a victory over Portland, pushing their winning streak against the Pilots to 13 in a row. At the top of the lineup, Zoe Almanza and Chloe Brown gave Oregon a quick 1-0 lead with their 21-10, 21-7 sweep. Tyus and Wetton picked up their second win of the day to push the Ducks' edge to 2-0 in the dual.
George and Schroeder earned the team's third, and clinching, point with a 21-14, 21-18 win over Taylor Helle and Elin Larsson at the No. 4 spot in the lineup. The UO pair now have 13 wins this season. After a pair of tough losses earlier in the day, McCaskill and Plevin secured a point on court five.
Portland grabbed the last point of the dual with a three setter at No. 3 pairs.
