Ducks Beat Portland for First Win of 2019

VANCOUVER, Wash. – The Oregon beach volleyball team earned its first win of the 2019 season on Sunday with a 4-1 victory over Portland at Frenchman's Bar Regional Park.
The Ducks (1-5) finished 1-2 at the Pacific Northwest Invitational, beating Portland on Sunday afternoon after falling to Washington, 3-2, and Boise State, 4-1, on Saturday.
How it Happened: Oregon won on four of five courts to take down the Pilots and secure its first win of the year, including a pair of three-set battles. Brooke Nuneviller and Lindsey Vander Weide recorded their fourth win of the season and second of the weekend on the No. 1 court, 21-18, 21-18, and the senior duo of Lauren Page and August Raskie dominated on court No. 4, 21-18, 21-9.
Emily Mattoon and Maddy Silberger-Franek rebounded from a tight first-set loss to win the next two, 21-8, 15-8, and earn a point at the No. 2 court, and freshmen Elise Ferreira and Carly Wallace won a thrilling match at the No. 5 spot, 21-19, 22-24, 18-16, to help clinch the Oregon victory.
Oregon dropped a 4-1 decision to Boise State on Saturday to open the weekend, with Nuneviller and Vander Weide notching a 21-16, 21-11 win at the top court.
The Ducks battled hard later on Saturday against Pac-12 rival Washington, dropping a very competitive match, 3-2. Josie Cole and Ally Haden picked up their first win of the season at the No. 3 court, 21-16, 21-91, while Page and Raskie won at the No. 4 spot, 21-15, 21-15. Both Nuneviller and Vander Weide (No. 1), and Ferriera and Wallace (No. 5), took their matches to a third set, but the Huskies pulled out the wins and the match.
Up Next: The Ducks will be back in action on March 26 against Loyola Marymount and No. 1 UCLA in Santa Monica, Calif., before heading to Long Beach to face Concordia (Calif.) and Long Beach State on March 27.
