Ducks Fall to No. 22 Auburn

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Oregon softball team fell to No. 22 Auburn, 8-0, in five innings on Friday in the Ducks' third game of the Judi Garman Classic.
The No. 20 Ducks (11-7) will be back in action on Saturday against Michigan (5 p.m.) and No. 7 Tennessee (8 p.m.) in their final two games of the weekend in Fullerton.
How it Happened: The Ducks struggled to get going offensively against Auburn ace Makayla Martin, who struck out nine and scattered three hits over five scoreless innings. Oregon had a chance to take an early lead in the second when Cherish Burks doubled and Jasmine Sievers singled to put two runners in scoring position with one out, but Martin struck out the next two batters to end the threat.
UO starter Jordan Dail worked around leadoff walks in the first two innings to keep the game scoreless, but a pair of doubles brought in two runs in the third to give Auburn a 2-0 lead. A wild pitch on a strikeout gave Auburn a runner to start the fourth, and the Tigers followed with two RBI hits and scored a third run on a passed ball. Auburn scored three runs in the fifth against freshman walk-on Kailey Krueger to secure the run-rule victory.
At the Plate: Burks finished 2-for-2 with a double and a single to raise her season average to .353, and Sievers leads the team with a .359 mark after going 1-for-2.
In the Circle: Dail (9-3) struck out four while allowing five runs, four earned, over four innings, and Krueger gave up three runs while pitching the fifth inning.
Notable: Sophomore Shaye Bowden continued to impress defensively behind the plate, throwing out a runner trying to steal in the second for her Pac-12-leading eighth runner caught stealing of the season … Auburn snapped a three-game losing streak against the Ducks.
Up Next: Weather permitting, Oregon will play Michigan at 5 p.m. and No. 7 Tennessee at 8 p.m. on Saturday to wrap the Judi Garman Classic. Rain is in the forecast for most of the day Saturday in Fullerton.
