
Ducks Fall to Portland in Beach Opener

OREGON AND PORTLAND WILL FACE OFF AGAIN SUNDAY AT 10 AM IN SALEM
SALEM, Ore. - The Oregon beach volleyball team opened its 2017 season on Saturday morning with a 3-2 loss to the Portland Pilots at Chemeketa College in Salem.
How it Happened: The Ducks (0-1) fared well on the top courts, claiming wins on both to earn their two points on the day. On the top court, junior Taylor Agost and freshman Brooke Van Sickle teamed up for a 21-19, 22-20 win over the Pilots' Cali Thompson and Tani Stephens. At the No. 2 spot, sophomores Lindsey Vander Weide and Laurent Page took down Portland's Hannah Troutman and Katie Barker, 21-17, 21-17.
Portland (1-0) would claim the remaining three dual matches, however, to open its 2017 season with a win over the Ducks. Willow Johnson and Maddy Silberger-Franek fought hard on No. 3 but fell in a three sets, 24-22, 17-21, 15-6, and the pair of Marine Hall-Poirier and Sumeet Gill also dropped a three-set battle at the No. 4 spot, 22-24, 21-17, 15-10. The sister duo of Mary Lonhart and Megan Lonhart rounded out the Oregon lineup with a 21-14, 21-14 loss on the fifth court.
Up Next: The Ducks and the Pilots will face off again on Sunday at 10 a.m. in Salem.
