ITA All-Americans: In his second match of the fall season, Laurent looked dominant against Georgia Tech's Carlos Divar cruising to a 6-1 victory in the opening set. The French international took his foot off the gas in the second set falling behind early, but rallied to win the final set and the match by a score of 6-1, 6-4.
"Tom was very consistent once again today," head coach Nils Schyllander said. "He dug deep into his toolbox to turn a 2-4 second set deficit into a 6-4 win."
With the win, Laurent becomes the first player in Oregon men's tennis history to advance to the sweet 16 at the ITA All-Americans. He will now look ahead to Saturday's match against eighth-seeded Constantin Schmitz of Tulane who is currently ranked 13th in the nation according to the ITA.
"Tomorrow is another great opportunity against a very solid opponent that got the best of us last year, but Tom is up for the challenge and ready to go," said Schyllander.
Schmitz and Laurent met during last year's regular season with Schmitz recording the win 6-4, 6-2.
Boise State Fall Classic: Meanwhile in Boise, the remaining five Ducks opened the Boise State Dar Walters Fall Classic in remarkable fashion winning 10 of their 11 matches.
Four Ducks advanced to the round of 16 Saturday while both doubles pairs advanced to the second day of play as well.
Doubles play opened the day Friday morning with the top-seeded pair of senior Simon Stevens and sophomore Ty Gentry almost blanking the Whitman College duo of Bear Lee and Andreas Mueller-Immergluck 8-1.

Gentry is the final Duck to earn a spot in the sweet 16 thanks to victories over Edin William of Idaho State 6-3, 6-1 followed by Boise State's Ryland McDermott 6-2, 6-2.
In only his sixth career singles match, Soemarno gave No. 4 seed Nathan Boniel of Portland State a run for his money rallying to force a decisive third set, but Boniel would hang on for the win 6-4, 4-6, 1-0(10-5).
