Williamson Blasts First Career Homer vs. 'Cats

TUCSON, Ariz. - In UO's second game in the desert this weekend, junior right fielder Blair Williamson hit her first career home run, but it wasn't enough to stop No. 11 Arizona who won, 11-3, Saturday night at UA's Hillenbrand Stadium.
Oregon (10-19, 0-3) scored three runs in the fifth and final inning, courtesy of Williamson's two-run shot over the center field wall, and another RBI single by sophomore Monique Fuiava to right field that scored senior Sari-Jane Jenkins who had singled earlier.
Arizona (30-7, 2-0) staked its first six runs of the game all with two outs in the second inning off sophomore starting pitcher Brittany Rumfelt (1-5).
After a leaping grab by freshman second baseman Kelsey Chambers on a liner and a groundout to shortstop, the next two UA hitters singled off the right center field wall and walked. The next hitter reached on an error by the second baseman that accounted for its first run. A throwing error by the catcher on a stolen base attempt at second allowed the next run to score. Another walk was followed by a RBI single up the middle and a three-run homer by Brittany Lastrapes to right center field.
After two more batters got on via walks by senior reliever Melissa Rice, freshman Mikala Endicott was called upon to end the inning with a strikeout.
UA added five more funs in fourth inning. Leles led off with her second homer of the game and 12th of the season, a solo shot to right field. After a strikeout, a walk and stolen base were followed by an RBI single to left field and a three-run homer by Victoria Kemp. Rumfelt came back in, and even though she allowed a single and walk, she also got the final outs of the inning without any more runs crossing the plate.
Overall on the mound, Rumfelt was tagged for six runs, all unearned in her 2.1 innings of work, struck out one and walked three. Endicott was charged with the remaining five runs ? all earned ? and struck out two and walked two.
The UO offense got off to a good start with hits in two of its first three at-bats on an infield hopper to deep shortstop by sophomore Cortney Kivett, and a single to right field by junior Neena Bryant that left runners on second and third with only one out. However, a groundout to third base and strikeout ended the inning.
UO also put runners on in the third and fourth innings when Jenkins and Ashley Kivett were hit by pitches, respectively. Sophomore Kaitlin Vitek also reached in the fifth via a walk, and pinch-runner and sophomore Hannah Barril was knocked in on Williamson's homer ? UO's 24th of the season.
For UA, seven hitters hit safely, and three had multiple hits ? Jenae Leles (2-for-4, 2 runs, 4 RBI, 2 home runs), Victoria Kemp (2-for-2, 2 runs, 3 RBI, 1 homer) and Brittany Lastrapes (2-for-3, 1 run).
Wildcat starting pitcher Lindsey Sisk (11-2) pitched the opening four innings, struck out five, walked one, and both her runs allowed were earned. After she allowed the homer to Williamson in the fifth inning, Jennifer Martinez came in and got the final three outs, allowed two hits, one earned run, struck out one and walked none.
Looking ahead, the Ducks play one final game this weekend at No. 11 Arizona Sunday at 11 a.m.
