BOISE, Idaho ? The University of Oregon men's tennis team, fell Tuesday morning in Boise, Idaho against the College of William & Mary, losing 4-3.
On the day the Ducks won two singles matches and the doubles point.
“We didn't play as well as a team as we have in certain other matches, so far this season, so we need to work on that, but overall everyone competed hard,” head coach Kevin Kowalik said. “Hopefully we will get that resolved because Boise State will be the second best team we have faced all year, other than Washington.”
Gustavo Loza, the freshman from Mexico City, won his match over Kavi Sud, in three sets, winning the first set, 7-6. Loza struggled a bit in the second set, as he fell 7-5, before rebounding to take the third set super tiebreaker 10-4.
“Gustavo was down 3-1, in the first set before coming back to win it, and he fell behind 4-1, in the second set before taking a 5-4 lead,” Kowalik said. “He did a good job coming back and getting himself back into the match but he needs to not get into situations where he has to come back from that far down.”
Markus Schiller was also a singles winner, as he defeated Billy Mulligan in straight sets, winning 6-3, 6-2.
The Ducks won two of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point as Schiller and Arron Spencer teamed up to win, 8-6, over Mulligan and Colin O'Brien. Also winning in doubles play was Fernando Freitas and Thomas Bieri, who defeated Stephen Ward and Matt Rubenstein, by an, 8-6, score as well.
