No. 25 Softball Falls Just Short To Streaking Beavers
04/06/05 | Softball
CORVALLIS ? Oregon State used a pair of home runs to defeat No. 25 Oregon 2-1 at the OSU Softball Complex in Corvallis Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Beavers extend their win-streak to 19 games and improve to 25-6 overall, 4-0 Pacific-10 Conference while Oregon falls to 22-11, 2-2.
"It's disappointing because I thought we played well," Oregon head coach Kathy Arendsen said. "It was a good game on both sides of the ball, we just couldn't get enough offense."
Freshman Lovena Chaput's Pac-10 hot-streak continued as her RBI double in the third inning was the Ducks' only hit of the game and drove in Oregon's only run. It is her 13th extra base hit of the season and her third in Pac-10 play.
Beaver pitcher Brianne McGowan gave up a costly walk to Oregon shortstop Breanne Sabol with one out in the third inning and Chaput scored Sabol to give the Ducks the first lead of the game, 1-0.
Junior pitcher Amy Harris (11-5) retired 10 consecutive batters before giving up a double to shortstop Mia Longfellow in the fourth inning. Designated player Cameria Miranda then lined out to second base and Harris struck out Vanessa Iapala to prevent the Beavers from scoring.
Oregon State added its second and third hits of the game in the fifth inning on back to back home runs by Lisa Allen and Sherina Galvan ? to take a 2-1 lead. The runs held as the Ducks were unable to record another hit in the game.
The Ducks travel to Arizona this weekend to face No. 17 Arizona State Friday at 7 p.m. and No. 2 Arizona Saturday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
