Arizona State Wins Second Straight Over Oregon Softball

TEMPE, Ariz. ? The Arizona State softball team defeated No. 10 University of Oregon 3-0 in front of 223 fans at Farrington Stadium in Tempe, Ariz., Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Sun Devils swept the weekend with Oregon to improve to 33-28 overal, 3-14 Pacific-10 Conference while Oregon fell to 37-17, 9-9.
"Again, we left runners on base and didn't get hits with runners in scoring position," Oregon head coach Kathy Arendsen said. "Now we have to focus on playing at home and closing out the Pac-10 season on a high note." Oregon catcher Jenn Poore led the Ducks offensively, going 2-for-3 with a walk while sophomores Beth Boskovich and Dani Baird accounted for a hit each. Junior pitcher Ani Nyhus (20-11) took the loss for Oregon while Arizona State junior Bre DeSanta improved to 10-11 in her first conference victory of the season. An RBI double off the left field wall by Arizona State All-American Phelan Wright scored center fielder Kristin Farber to put the Sun Devils up 1-0 in the third inning. Nyhus then intentionally walked Val Sevilla to load the bases and Kari Pulcifer put the squeeze on, scoring shortstop Kristin Crenshaw to extend the lead to 2-0. In the fifth, Sevilla hit her 15th home run of the season off reliever Amy Harris to put Arizona ahead 3-0. The Ducks return home next weekend, hosting Stanford and California in their final Pac-10 games of the season.
