Meashintubby's Gem, Richards' HR Lead Ducks To 3-0 Victory

POWAY, Calif. ? Junior Ashley Richards hit her third home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth inning and senior pitcher Anissa Meashintubby struck out a career-high nine batters as the 21st-ranked University of Oregon softball team won its fifth consecutive game, defeating Sacramento State, 3-0, at the Campbell/Cartier Classic in Poway, Calif. With the win, Oregon remains perfect at the tournament and improved to 8-4 on the season while the Hornets fell to 4-8.
"Again, I thought this was a huge win for our team," Oregon head coach Kathy Arendsen said. "What a tremendous outing by pitcher Anissa Meashintubby and our defense. And, offensively, we were able to come through when we needed to."
Meashintubby improved to 3-1 this season and in 5.1 innings of work the senior from Monroe allowed no runs, three hits and walked no one.
The game remained scoreless through four and a half innings before Oregon's offense came on in the fifth. With two outs, catcher Jenn Poore reached on a fielders choice and shortstop Breanne Sabol followed with a single to shallow left field. Richards then stepped up with a three-run home run to put the Ducks on the board, 3-0.
The Ducks resume play at the tournament tonight, facing Long Beach State and 5:30 p.m.
