Renfro, Mel

Mel Renfro
- Induction:
- 1992
Not only did Renfro play both offense and defense in his 1961-63 Oregon career, he also went both ways in other ways as well. He became Oregon’s second two-sport all-America in 1962 as a halfback and hurdler. A two-time honoree in football, he rushed for 1,540 yards and finished second in the high hurdles and third in the long jump at the 1962 NCAA meet at Hayward Field.
Only six players in the history of the Dallas Cowboys have been enshrined in the team’s Ring of Honor and Renfro was the fifth. He holds the club record with 52 career interceptions, was selected for the NFL Pro Bowl 10 times and was named
all-Pro on five occasions during his 1964-77 career. He also is Oregon’s fifth honoree in the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame.
