Mel Krause
- Induction:
- 2001
One can’t speak of Oregon baseball without mentioning Mel Krause. A three-time letterwinner in baseball and two-time ?O’ recipient in basketball from 1948-51, Krause left his mark on Oregon athletics history as head baseball coach from 1970-1980. He compiled a 202-199 record, including two Northern Division co-championships in 1972 and 1974 when the Ducks posted records of 24-13 and 26-19.
A standout player in his own right, Krause played professionally from 1954-1961 with the Salem Senators and Eugene Emeralds, and later scouted for three different major league teams. He also coached baseball and basketball at the school level in Portland and Eugene, where his teams won many championships.
