Leo Harris
- Induction:
- 1992
When Oregon’s first director of athletics took over in 1947, the athletic department was hovering on the brink of financial collapse. When he left in 1967, Oregon had solid teams and a sound image and was able to build cozy Autzen Stadium, one of the most beautiful and feared football facilities in the nation, as one of his final duties.
His collegiate athletic career included three seasons as a tackle at Stanford. After that he turned to coaching and guided Fresno State to a pair of Far West Conference titles. During his administration, the athletic department at Oregon made its first significant financial and competitive progress with a priority on facilities. He also was responsible for expanding McArthur Court to its present capacity, using athletic revenue and gifts wisely.
