It didn’t take Becky Holliday long to place her stamp among track & field’s elite as she quickly played a role in the emergence of the women’s pole vault from its infancy at Oregon into a collegiate record holder. She honed her talents in her specialty before joining the Ducks from Clackamas (OR) Community College, finishing seventh in the World University Games in Beijing in 2001. Upon arriving in Eugene she wasted no time adapting to her new environment, equaling the program’s school record in her initial indoor competition before eclipsing the standard one month later (13-9.75). Before her first year was completed, the four-time NCAA All-American scored third in the 2002 national collegiate indoor championships, seventh at the NCAA outdoor meet, and fifth in the USA Championships while tying as the nation’s top collegian. As a senior, the 2003 NCAA Indoor Championship runner-up proceeded to claim outdoor pole vault titles at the Pac-10 (setting a conference meet record) and NCAA levels in addition to setting the collegiate record of 14-8. Her collegiate success paved the way for her earning the University’s Jackson Award as its top senior female athlete in 2003. Following her collegiate career, the seven-time U.S. Championship medalist placed second at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene before finishing ninth in the Olympic Games in London.
